Bericht over oorlog in Oekraïne van Skylum en oproep: 'doneer fotografie drones ter bescherming van burgers'
Oekraïne heeft een bloeiende techsector - onder meer PayPal, Snapchat, Revolut en Gitlab zijn mede door Oekraïners bedacht. Ook softwareontwikkelaar Skylum, bekend van onder meer de Luminar foto editing programma's, vindt zijn oorsprong in Oekraïne. Hoewel het hoofdkantoor zich tegenwoordig in de Verenigde Staten bevindt, heeft Skylum zijn wortels nog altijd in Oekraïne. De ontwikkeling van de programma's van het bedrijf vindt dan ook daar plaats. Zoals wel vaker gebeurt in deze branche, leerde ik het bedrijf kennen via een bericht van Anna Koval, hoofd PR en communicatie, gevestigd in Kyiv. Sindsdien hebben we met enige regelmaat contact en schrijf ik soms iets over nieuwe toepassingen en updates van Skylum. Eerder bij Computerworld en nu op TechFi.
Bericht uit Oekraïne
Net als veel mensen lees ik de berichten over de oorlog met een mengeling van afgrijzen en machteloosheid. Vorige week vroeg ik Anna of er iets was waarmee ik kon helpen. Eerder antwoordde ze op persoonlijke titel, maar vandaag stuurde ze namens alle medewerkers van Skylum een verzoek om iets te delen over de situatie in Oekraïne. 'Hoe meer mensen kennis nemen van wat er gebeurt in Oekraïne, hoe groter de kans dat regeringen zullen optreden met sancties tegen Rusland en steun aan Oekraïne', is de motivatie.
TechFi bereikt nog maar een bescheiden publiek, maar desalniettemin is dit een verzoek waar ik gehoor aan wil geven. Elk beetje helpt.

Oproep om drones te doneren voor fotografie en bescherming burgers
Naast dit bericht, roept Skylum fotografen en andere dronegebruikers op om drones voor fotografie te doneren. Die wil het inzetten om burgers te beschermen, door snel op afstand fotografische informatie te sturen aan defensietroepen en om te dienen als vroeg waarschuwingssysteem.
You can help Ukrainians to protect themselves as your drone will provide real-time pictures of the situation on the ground. Our defenders can act faster and more decisively with the help of drones and provide better security to civilians with prior warnings about imminent danger. Your drone will be saving lives!
